CANY and the Consulate General of Canada in New York invite you to join us for a special lunchtime event on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Consulate, for a Fireside Chat to discuss “Canadian Innovation: past, present and future.”  Consul General Tom Clark will be speaking with Tom Jenkins, a leading Canadian innovator and entrepreneur. In his 2017 book, co-authored with David Johnston, Ingenious: How Canadian Innovators Made the World Smarter, Smaller, Kinder, Safer, Healthier, Wealthier, and Happier, Mr. Jenkins explores the history of Canadian innovation and the processes, circumstances, incidents and collaborations that have led to so many amazing advancements. The discussion will not only cover this rich history, but also an assessment of the current entrepreneurial landscape in Canada and a view to what the future can hold.

Tom Jenkins has been active for more than 40 years in innovation and economic development in both the private and public sectors. At the beginning of the commercial web, he was instrumental in the creation of one of the world’s first search engines working with Netscape and the Microsoft Network as well as the creation of technologies used within organizations to manage their web-based content.

Mr. Jenkins is currently Chair of OpenText™ Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, a multinational enterprise software firm and one of the largest software and cloud computing companies in the world. He is also the Chair of First Ascent Ventures, a venture capital fund. Mr. Jenkins is past Chair of the World Wide Web Foundation, and the founding Chair of the National Research Council of Canada. Mr. Jenkins is an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC).

Please join us for what will be a fascinating discussion. The Fireside Chat will be followed by a reception at which a light lunch will be served.
